Timmy Tuesday Newsletter

Goal Setting Season

It’s beginning to look a lot like NEW GOALS AND DREAMS!

It’s Tuesday. And my name is Timmy.

I’m not sure about y’all but this December has kicked my butt! Normally I try my hardest to reserve December as a month to do the work I want, but for the most part I try to just relax and hang out with my family and enjoy the season.

It wasn’t until this past weekend that I’ve been able to really do that. And the good news is that going forward for the remainder of the season (one week from yesterday technically) it’s all about resting and being with the kids leading up to Christmas.

If you’ve got kids, especially multiple kids, maybe your December has looked like mine. One kid is sick and gets better just in time for the other to catch it and be down for the count for that week. Or maybe it’s more like what happened here where it was my first kid, then my second kid, then my wife! All the while having a huge project on my plate that I’ve got to juggle while getting my family healthy and in bed so they can get better.

It’s been a while one. But we wrapped the project AND everyone in the house is healthy… So now it’s time to dig into the season and just relax.

Hopefully y’all have had a restful end of the year with some time to dream and figure out what y’all will be going after in 2024.

Think about it:

I never really understood New Year Resolutions.

What?! Because it’s one day later then December 31st NOW it’s time to make some goals?!

I get that a new number to a year is just a good milestone to turn the page on old things and jump head first into new things. But ask my wife, I normally move on new and exciting ideas and life rhythms as soon as they pop into my brain or get suggested to me on X.

That could also be why there are so many unfinished projects and ideas on my computer and why every new idea never lands in my house as the next big thing, but more like Timmy’s flavor of the week.

Note to self, start cooking podcast called Timmy’s Flavor of the Week. Find random and delicious recipes for food and/or drink. Invite friends on the pod and let them create and enjoy with you. Share with the world.

Anyway.

Resolutions. Or, new plans. With December wrapping up have you given yourself a chance to dream about what’s next for you? What new things will you try? What new places will you go to? What conversations will you have that you’ve been putting off? What will you create and put out into the world?

What does your rhythm look like for coming up with your plans when a new year is approaching? Do you even put that into practice at all?

As an “elder emo millennial” I personally find that if I don’t plan out at least part of what I want to accomplish in any given year I’ll find myself in October and November wondering what that year was even for outside of getting from point A to point B.

I feel a little bit that way about this year. That being said, it was a bit of a transition year with my wife taking a full time position and both kids being in elementary school. So seeing what life was like with all that new for us while still having a 9-5 and full time contract work took up a lot of my brain power.

But not this year. I plan on taking all of next week to drift in and out of planning and daydreaming to place my flag in a few goals. Things to learn, projects to start, ways to include my kids, vacations to get away throughout. Otherwise I’ll get to November wondering what it was all for.

Creatives to follow:

@byRegie : Check out Reggie. He’s a photographer from SC who just recently jumped back onto X. He’s got super rad stuff to say and his work is bananas.

@mysteropodes : Not much to say here. Super rad 2D animator with tons of inspiration to pass around. He’s also got a brilliant tool for people who keyrame a ton called Time Offset you should check out.

We’re less than a week away from Christmas. For those who celebrate I hope y’all have a great time with friends and family. I hope you wake up December 26th and feel like you celebrated the right way with the right people.

More then that, I hope that you get into the weirdest week of the year (between Christmas and New Year) and you make some plans. Set some goals. Dream big dreams for yourself.

You’re going to crush 2024. Let me know how I can help.

I want to:

  • Celebrate your wins.

  • Be inspired by what is inspiring you.

  • Help you with any issue you might have, if I can or if the community can.

  • What’d you think of this week’s newsletter?

Go make something! I’ll see y’all next week!
